Parks

Waimea Parks Committee

A committee has formed to revive the Waimea Park(s) project first proposed in 1992. For information, contact one of the following: Sherm Warner (885-1725), Mel Macy (960-3053), Darryl Wise (895-8119), Anne Field-Gomes (885-4560), John Ray (885-7184), Bob Hunter (885-4194), Steve Bess (987-9192) Margaret Wille (887-1419) or Janine Packett (887-0872).

Here are links to information gathered by the committee and others:

Kauhale 'Oiwi o Pu'ukapu - this Hawaiian Community Learning Center is under development in Waimea; the idea of DHHL contributing nearby land for a park has also been discussed

Waimea Youth Center

Here is information on a proposed Waimea Youth Center that was developed by Series IV 2006/2007 of the Hawai'i Island Uluamua Leadership Series of the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce.

Possible Issues

Our community may decide that the plan should address the following issues:

Do county and state park plans reflect the needs of the community?
How can we make sure the parks are built when they are needed?
How can park maintenance be funded?

What do current plans say?

This needs to be researched. Volunteers?
